He’s Still God

Though the fig tree should not blossom, nor fruit be on the vines, the produce of the olive fail and the fields yield no food, the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord; I will take joy in the God of my salvation. God, the Lord, is my strength; he makes my feet like the deer’s; he makes me tread on my high places… – Habakkuk 3:17–19, ESV

Fair Weather Fans There are two types of fans in the sports arena: die hard and fair weather. Die hard fans have a loyalty that is just that: it dies hard. They support the team when they’re dominating as well as when they’re being dominated. If the team has gone three years without a championship or even making it to the playoffs, the die hard fan will still wear the paraphernalia, still know every statistical fact about the team, and still argue for three hours on how victory will be theirs one day. A fair weather fan is the exact opposite. They are known as the fans that are the last to arrive, first to leave. When the team is inches away from winning it all, fair weather fans are yelling the loudest and celebrating the hardest. Let the team make one fumble or shoot one air ball, and the ‘fans’ are suddenly on the opposing team’s side, booing their once ‘favorite’ team.

There are a lot of fair weather Christians.

If God allows healing to manifest in momma’s body, fair weather Christians shout the loudest. If God opens the door for financial increase in their life, fair weather Christians clap the hardest. The moment God performs the miracle, grants the victory, makes the way, or shows favor, you won’t be able to beat a fair weather Christian dancing, flipping, and passing out from ‘a mighty move of God’.

If God’s answer to their prayer is no…well, you won’t be able to beat a fair weather Christian pouting, complaining, and throwing the biggest pity party since Jesus squashed the Pharisees.

Transparent time: I too often have been the best fair weather Christian there is. Happy when God says yes; depressed when He says no or not yet. But thank God for Grace. By Grace, I have a new determination:

My praise must be at the same magnitude regardless of the answer.

I don’t want to be a fair weather praiser. I don’t want to wear a Number One Jesus Fan shirt only when He shows Grace through promotion. I want to praise Him even if He shows Grace through discipline.

Habakkuk was a die hard praiser. In the midst of Judah’s impending attack by the Chaldeans, Habakkuk still trusted, praised, and worshiped Jehovah. If fig trees wouldn’t blossom or ripe fruit refused to fall from the vineyard, Habakkuk was still Jehovah’s number one fanatic. Olives could not grow, and fields could remain barren; Habakkuk would yet trust Him. Sheep could die where they stand and cattle could run from the stalls; Habakkuk still served the most high. He still rejoiced in the Lord. He found joy and praised God for one reason:

Because God is God.

Even if you don’t get the promotion, He’s still God. If healing won’t come; He’s still God. If your family never reconciles; He’s still God. If He doesn’t make the way; He’s still God.

He’s the same trustworthy God (Job 13:15). The same able God (Daniel 3:17). The same Grace-full God (2 Corinthians 12:9). The same new-Mercy serving God (Lamentations 3:21-22). The same God that was, is, and always will be the same: God (Hebrews 13:8).

Even when we stop acting like His children, He never ceases to be our Father. When we’re not Godly, He’s still very much God.

For that reason alone, He’s worth every ounce of your praise.

This is awesome…it really helps even for myself to self-evaluate my commitment in the Lord. I've always been in church, watched others shouting and praising, and just KNEW that all that extra stuff was unnecessary. I've been thru…believe and as 22 year old, I do thank God everyday…for EVERYTHING that I have and that I've faced. I am ride or die (LOL)…hardcore. God puts me in things, P.U.S.Hes me thru it all until I see that he IS the guiding light and my salvation…I love this…

"though He slay me….i will still praise Him" – Job.

i pray that i will choose to respond like that everyday.

  3. Amen. When we finally realize that God is our Father we will begin to understand we must be disciplined sometimes and, that all things we want we don't need. God is Blessing us all tthe while knowing whats best for us.
